Top 5 Signage Design Tips

Whether you have a new or existing business, going through a re-brand or re-launch – signage wise, the who, what, when, when and how are all the same and ABC Sign Corp is here to help you through the process.  Knowing your “ideal client”, your market, the location and the purpose will make designing an effective sign.  Here are some tips to think about:

1. Include Your Business Information

Seems simple enough but knowing WHERE you are putting this sign and WHO will be reading it (and they information they need) are some key points to consider.  If you are a deli, and need menu signage, you will need more information.  If the signage is above your front door, you will only need your logo and name of your business.

Depending on the location of your sign and what is its purpose, here is a list of information to think about:

  • Company name
  • Telephone number
  • Your website
  • Social media links – This helps for reviews and messaging
  • Your slogan or main service
  • QR Code

Some other questions to consider:

  • Where is this sign located
  • Does it need to be weather proof
  • Does it need to be lit
  • How large can it be or should it be
  • What is the best material to use for this signage

2. Keep The Design Simple

When it comes to designing your signage, it’s important to keep things simple. This will not only ensure that your sign is easy to understand and is eye catching, but it will also ensure that people passing by or driving past will have a clear idea of what you do right away. No matter your industry or the product/service you offer, ABC Sign Corp has experience with it and will be able to guide you through this process. We will ensure that you attract the attention of your customers and can be seen whether its walking up to your location or driving by on the highway. Although we encourage simple designs, we also encourage creativity.

3. Maintain Your Branding

One of the crucial parts of your signage is making sure it keeps within your branding specs. This ensures consistency and your brand is also easily recognizable.

4. Design Your Sign To Target Your Audience

Just as with all of your other marketing initiatives, you should always think of targeting your “ideal customer” when designing anything from a logo to a whole branding campaign. Signage is no different. Take their needs and likes into consideration and what is required to catch their attention. Certain brands and industries will find that simple, straightforward branding works whereas others might find that they need to use industry specific terms to appeal to that market.

Do you know who your target audience is?  What are they looking for?  Need clarification, let the professionals at ABC Sign Corp help you.

 5. Location Matters

This is the WHERE.  The location of your sign is just as important as the design itself. So, before you move forward to design your sign, take into consideration the location of where you’re positioning the sign. For example, indoor signage, LED signs, monument signs, window graphics, wall graphics, and retail business signs are all completely different ways you can target your audience. So, be sure to consider the location of where your signage is going and the type of sign it is as this will help to create the perfect piece.

We also need to take into consideration town and building restrictions, electricity/lighting and size restrictions.

ABC Sign Corp has over 65 years of experience creating the right signage from mom and pop shops on Main Street to large scale digital scoreboards for the Patriots.  We look forward to helping your business get the recognition it deserves.

  1. It’s interesting when you said that you should consider having a simple design for customers to easily identify your business. My best friend told me yesterday that he and his friend hoped to find electronic signage for their restaurant to attract customers. He asked if I had any idea what could be the best design option. Thanks to this helpful article, I’ll tell him that it will be much better if they consult a trusted electronic signage service as they can help provide more information about the designs and ideas.
